How it works

How Praktend fits into your practice

Praktend connects to Open Dental, reads what each job needs, and brings results back to your team. Anything that goes out follows the approval rules below. Its work is organized into departments, and each request goes to the department that owns it. Start with Insurance Verification; each department has its own page.

What moves between Open Dental and your team

  1. Open Dental

    For Insurance Verification, Praktend connects through Open Dental's API and reads your schedule and the insurance plans on patients' records.

  2. Praktend

    Insurance Verification asks each payer for coverage and benefits through an eligibility clearinghouse. It does not change appointments, insurance plans or the ledger in Open Dental.

  3. Your team

    Results come back to your team. An optional Attach to chart button, off unless turned on for your practice, lets an admin add the benefits PDF to a patient's chart.

What comes back for one patient

After a check, your team opens a patient's benefits: the annual maximum left, the deductible, coverage percentages and how often each service is covered, with “not sent” wherever the payer sent no value.
