FAQ

Questions practices ask about Praktend

Straight answers on the departments, pricing, the free trial and patient data. Praktend is the back office for practices that use Open Dental, where a person approves anything that spends money, and Insurance Verification never changes appointments, insurance plans or the ledger in Open Dental.

Getting started

What is Praktend?

Software for dental offices that run Open Dental, organized into departments, each with its own AI assistant.

Start with Insurance Verification. Each other department has its own page.

What can a practice buy from Praktend?

Insurance Verification.

Anyone you give access can check a patient; your admin can check the whole day's schedule. Praktend returns the patient's coverage and benefits from the payer.

Which practice management systems does it work with?

Insurance Verification works with Open Dental.

If you use Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Eaglesoft, Curve Dental, CareStack or another system, tell us when you book a demo.

How do we get started?

Book a 15-minute demo.

After the demo you get access, connect Open Dental and run your first check from the app.

What happens in the demo?

In 15 minutes we show the departments and the AI chief of staff, run a check on a sample schedule, show what comes back and answer your questions.

Insurance Verification

Which insurance plans can it check?

Commercial dental plans.

For other plans, your team checks those the usual way.

Do we need payer IDs?

No.

Praktend reads the plan on the patient's record in Open Dental, or matches the carrier name. When a name fits more than one payer, it asks you to pick from a short list.

What comes back from a check?

The patient's coverage and benefits as the payer reports them, including the deductible and annual maximum.

You can download the summary as a PDF or Word file. Where the payer doesn't send a value, the summary says so instead of guessing.

Does Praktend change anything in Open Dental?

Insurance Verification does not change appointments, insurance plans or the ledger in Open Dental.

An optional Attach to chart button, off unless turned on for your practice, lets an admin add the benefits PDF to a patient's chart.

Who on our team can run checks?

Your practice's admin can check one patient or the whole day's schedule.

Other team members can check single patients once your admin gives them access and staff access is turned on for your practice.

Does checking the same patient twice cost twice?

Not for the same appointment date.

Asking again for the same patient and the same appointment date reuses the first answer, so it isn't counted twice. A check on a later day asks the payer again and counts as a new check. Each verified appointment covers up to 2 checks.

Pricing and billing

What does Insurance Verification cost?

$199 a month with 300 verified appointments included.

Past the allowance it's $0.50 per extra verified appointment. Overage is not charged at this time.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Insurance Verification starts with a 14-day free trial when it is the first thing your practice buys.

Your card is taken at checkout and the first charge comes at the end of the trial. Cancel before then from Settings > Billing and you aren't charged.

Is there a setup fee?

No.

Security and data

How is patient data protected?

Insurance Verification does not change appointments, insurance plans or the ledger in Open Dental. Our security page explains what is and isn't in place.
